Montreal

I was in a bit of a humorous mood on the drive from Acadia to Montreal. They may not elicit a laugh now, but I got a real kick from these creative sound bites:

Chow Maine- Chinese restaurant

YouCube- self storage place

Delicious Without the Dishes- takeout sign

Camp in the Woods, Not the Left Lane- traffic sign

No Public Restroom; Try the Bushes- Canada Border Crossing

There were a whole lotta woods between the Maine coast and Montreal. I took a rest stop and went “swimming” in a mountain stream, in quotes because it was so shallow I just lay down.

I had two wonderful days in Montreal with my brother Hanny and his wife Lyne. I also spent an afternoon with their son Sam, which was also great. Hanny (Hansford Rowe III) is five years older than me, and for some strange reason when we were younger we always referred to each other as half brothers, because technically we are, each having our own mother. But several decades ago, I was visiting him in Quebec and he introduced me as his “semi-frere” and it just sounded so wrong I asked if we could just say we’re brothers, and so it has been ever since.

He is a well-known and well-respected bassist and very recommended to do a search of his “real” name. A couple friends of mine are avid fans of his work with the seminal prog rock band Gong. Looking at you, Phil!

I left this morning and had a welcome short drive to Kring Point State Park, where I have two days to kick back, swim, read, make music and do things I say I have the intention to do on this trip. I laugh at myself when I have time in the afternoon and I can’t decide what “intention” to act on! And yes, I give myself permission to do none of them…

I have to say I really enjoy making dinner! It feels good to take the time to create something delicious and nutritious, and feels like a good metaphor for taking care of myself. Tonight was blackened salmon, roasted Brussels sprouts (they just keep going!) and sweet potato.
